AUTOCAD DRAWINGS TRANSLATION

Why are AutoCAD drawings so specific to deal with?

AutoCAD drawings are often included in the technical translation orders. The main problem here is that such translation must be made with AutoCAD software or by using some additional specially designed programs. In addition to knowing technical terminology the translator has to learn to use such software – edit, relocate, copy the text, otherwise it will ‘creep’ or ‘skip’.

Main types of drawings:

1. Architectural drawings and construction plans, layouts.
2. Engineering drawings.

Who translates AutoCAD drawings?

AutoCAD files are translated by the technical translators with basic skills of using AutoCAD software.

Information to be provided by the customer when placing an AutoCAD translation order:

1. AutoCAD version used to make the drawing.
2. Specific fonts and settings used to make the drawing.

How long is the order fulfilled?

AutoCAD translations need more time than for the same text in Word or Excel files. Most time is spent for the execution of the drawing rather than for the translation. What is more, very few translators work in such format. Therefore, to make an AutoCAD translation we need at least 3 working days.

How is the order cost calculated?

Since AutoCAD translation takes more time and requires additional efforts, TraDos Translation Company calculates the cost of the translation based on the following principle:

• 1 sheet of the drawing is taken as 1 standard page, provided that it contains maximum 1,800 characters including spaces.

An inlay usually contains 1 drawing, however some files may have several sheets in one inlay. If this is the case, the sheets are calculated separately.

• If 1 sheet contains more than 1,800 characters including spaces, the cost of the translation is calculated based on the number of the actual characters on the drawing.
